TrueCut System - Part 1 - Rotary Cutters

Posted by Betsy on

I got to try this system at the Craft & Hobby Association show in Toronto recently. We bought it for the shop immediately! I have a traditional rotary cutter at home, and use it all the time for fabric. It is so much faster than cutting with scissors and you get a much more accurate cut. It has its flaws though. The ruler can slip and ruin your cut and fabric, especially when cutting thicker fabrics. I also find that when trying to keep a good pressure for your cut, you can slip away from the ruler, either onto fabric you didn't mean to cut or onto your ruler. The TrueCut system addresses all these issues and does it really well. We'll start with the rotary cutter itself. This is the TrueCut My Comfort Cutter. It comes in 3 sizes. The new My Comfort Cutter has a few great new features. Its ergonomic shape makes cutting easier. Pressing down is at a much more natural angle. It also has a removable window that you can use to add a piece of paper with your name or even the tasks you use it for, so if you have many crafters in your house or you go to events, you won't mix your up with someone else's. If you are a mixed media person you can even designate 1 for fabric, another for paper. They come in 3 sizes... 28mm, 45mm and 60mm. Great for any size hands. Of course blades are still a problem. They can be the most expensive part of the whole setup as you need to keep buying new ones. Dull blades make it harder to cut and don't do as nice a job either. So check out part 2 of our TrueCut review... the blade sharpening system.
